Out of the Mouths of Babes

Timmy has started to ask what everything is, even if he knows what it is already. I usually humor him and tell him if he knows or doesn't know. Sometimes I will say, "You know what it is. What is it?" He then usually answers me correctly.

The other evening he was sitting on my bed with me and he pointed up to a picture of the Savior and asked, "What's that?"

"A picture of Jesus."

"Jesus."

"Do you know who Jesus is?"

No answer.

"He's our older brother."

"Older brother."

"Do you remember Jesus from Heaven?"

Nod.

"What do you remember about Jesus?"

"He taught me." That brought tears to my eyes.

Lazy Days of Summer

First, here is a picture of the damage done to our car when I was rear ended. Not much damage but it still cost over a thousand dollars to fix. Good thing insurance covered it.

Second, the day after the accident Robin (my neighbor) and I took our kids to the park. We went early about 9 a.m. but it was still very hot.

Third, Robin's little boy broke his femur on Sunday. Poor little boy. He is in half a body cast. That put our walking on hold for now. He's just about 6 months younger than Timmy.

Fourth, the skies finally opened up and let loose it's fury on us last night. It started around 9 p.m. and went well into the night keeping our kids up and in our room most of the night. It thundered, lightninged, and poured rain. We desperately needed it but today there were not many puddles left (since the gound was so parched.) It was still near the 100s today though and will be for one more day before we finally should cool down and get some more rain.

Fifth, I had my doctor's appointment today. I have made up for not gaining any weight the first three months with the last two months. Now it needs to slow down. Also I have an umbilical hernia. I thought it was a hernia from something I seen on an episode of "The Doctors." I can not get it fixed until after I am done having children because it will probably just pop out again. So for the time being I will look like I have an outie above my innie. It usually doesn't bother me but once in awhile it hurts.

Sixth, it was Ray's turn to make dinner (lunch since he is on swings) today and he didn't feel like cooking when I got back from my appointment so I told him we could go out if we didn't go out again until payday. We decided on KFC. We have three in the area and decided to go to the closest one. I really don't like that one because they are always so SLOW. Well, we placed our orders, I took Sheila to the bathroom (the toilet was making noise so she ended up not going,) got our drinks and sat down. After 10 minutes they tell my husband they are out of extra crispy breast (my order) and could they replace it with original recipe. NO! Can they give me wings instead? NO! Why didn't they know they were out of breast when we placed our order? They told him it would take over 20 minutes to cook another one. We got a refund. (They didn't even offer to give me anything for free, or give me a coupon to come back. Horrible customer service. But since I was already drinking my drink I got that for free.) So I sat there and watched as Ray and the kids ate. Ray said the food wasn't even good. It was cold. Afterwards we went across to Zaxby's and ordered me something. I got chicken fingers. I ate in the car on the way home. We have sworn off Wendy's here in the south and I think we are close to KFC, at least that location.

See not much going on with us. I knew we would literally have lazy days of summer this year. Here's to some more lazy days of summer.

Been Up To

Okay, so I haven't blogged much lately. It's because I really haven't been up to much. I have given myself sort of a schedule and that is what I have been doing everyday.

I walk, read the scriptures, clean the house, play with the kids, fix lunch, work on scrapbooking or sewing, make dinner, crochet or knit or cross stitch while watching TV, get Sheila in bed, read to Timmy until he falls asleep, and then go to bed myself. I usually read some more before I go to bed. Timmy has taken to waking up in the middle of the night. Last night was the first night in about a month that he hasn't woken up sometime around 2 a.m. This morning he got up at 5:45 and I got up with him since Ray is on the swing shift for the week and only got to bed a little after midnight. So with him waking up every night has Ray and I both exhausted.

Since the accident we had the car in the shop for about 5 days to get the rear end fixed. I also went grocery shopping this week. Today Ray and I went out this morning to take the car in to get the fan belt looked at. (Same car as the accident but this isn't because of the accident and will be covered under our warranty.) They didn't have the part so we will have to take the car back Monday or Tuesday. While they were looking at it we test drove a Honda Pilot and went to Wal-Mart. Oh, and I had a primary meeting. That is the extent of my excitement lately.

My sciatic nerve has finally lightened up (still hurts but not as severely) but now it feels like some one kicked me in my pelvic bone and I walk around the house like I have to pee. Timmy and Sheila colored all over our dining room chairs with crayons. Thankfully I throw out any crayon that enters our home that is not washable and so they cleaned up easily.

Ray interviewed for 4 promotions two weeks ago. He heard about the one yesterday that he didn't get it (we knew that was a long shot.) Still waiting on the other three. Not holding my breath though. However, two more are just opening up and there will be 6-8 more within the next year so hopefully Ray will get one of those. One that just opened up he actually has a good shot at so we will be praying for that.

And that has been the great happenings so far in June.

Heat Wave

We are locked in a heat wave down here. I go walking almost every morning between 7:15-7:30 and lately the temperature has been in the 80s by then and that is not counting the heat index (humidity factor.) I am a sweaty mess by the time I get home. The other day I had a sweat moment like Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas (if you remember that famous photo.) I believe her now that it was sweat and not pee. Good thing I was at home when I noticed mine and was able to change. Today we didn't go for our walk. The heat index is 110 (it is about 96 degrees but with the humidity it feels like 110.) I have kept the curtains closed today and trying to keep the house cool. I hope that we get the rain and the relief from the heat this weekend. It will still be hot though.

Dentist and Accident

Sheila had her third dental visit and Timmy had his first today. It went so well. Ray met me in there since Sheila has never been too pleased at going to the dentist. But she actually opened her mouth for him and then bit down when he asked and let the assistant brush her teeth and give her a fluoride treatment. Timmy also cooperated so we were very pleased. They got toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, stickers, and a little prize.

After the dentist we went out for a smoothie. I needed to run to the grocery store so Ray and I switched cars. He took the kids home and I went to the grocery store. The highway out to our house is one of the worst in the state. Today they had construction going on in the north lane traffic, which I was traveling. I was almost to a light when a car infront of me stopped quickly. I believe that a car or two in front of him stopped first. I was able to stop in time. I looked back and thought "I hope they stop." She didn't look like she was going that fast. I looked back up front and that is when I got hit. I managed not to hit the car in front of me even though the car lurched forward slightly.

I called Ray (he had just got home and was changing) and then we pulled over. A cop pulled up while waiting in the traffic and said that the highway patrol was on their way. So we waited and waited. Ray got there and we waited and waited. After almost an hour Ray called again and so did the lady. Finally Ray just called our insurance company and started to do the exchange. The cop finally got there about 1 1/2 hours later and took the report. The lady was found at fault of course since she rear ended me. She was a nice lady so I did feel bad that she got a ticket.

Why did it take them so long? On Ray's way to get to me from our house which was about 3-5 miles he passed two accidents, one serious one. Then when the lady called the cops again they said there was an accident on both the north and south side of us with injuries so we were low priority. The cop was headed to another one right after us. There was probably 6 accidents today on that road between 3-5 this afternoon. That is just nuts. I am okay. Startled me (yes, I did scream) more than anything. No airbags went off, my head didn't jerk back. It was like being in a bumper car and getting smacked in the back pretty good. Our bumper will probably have to be replaced. Hers look like she just had a little dent. I was in our Milan and she was in Chevy truck so I was surprised our car didn't have more damage. It was my first accident where I didn't side swipe something (those both happened between 18-24 years of age) a real accident and I am glad that we weren't the one with injuries.

End of May and June happenings so far

1. The last day of school Sheila got a bucket full of summer goodies. One was a bubble wand and so that day after daddy got home we had to go out and play with bubbles.
2. I finished my first quilt for the baby. The front is two different jungle materials pieced in 6 inch blocks and the back is light green flannel and the binding is yellow ruffle. The quilt is tied with yellow yarn. This can go for a boy or girl. I am also make one girl and boy one that is hand quilted.

3. The last Saturday in May we went to the beach out on base. We tried to go earlier to collect shells but not much luck. I do still need to clean up the ones we got. While we were wading out in the water a big old crab came out of the sand right between our feet. The kids got freaked out and that was the end of being in the water. The kids had fun digging in the sand as usual.
4. I had a few more magnolia blooms. Unfortunately the last two bloomed during a huge thunderstorm so no pictures of them. But I got some of the third to last one to bloom.
5. We had our quarterly primary activity this Saturday. We had a FHE and then made FHE charts and cleaned chairs (our lesson was on service and that was the kid's service projects.) Then out we went to a huge blow up water slide and refreshments. All the kids had a blast. Poor Timmy wouldn't try it though. He's still timid after being terrorized by a boy in McDonalds over a month ago. I made candy pizza for it and if I ever make it again (they were fun) I will not roll pull and peel licorice into pepperoni shapes again. That took forever and they stuck to my fingers, not to themselves, and would unravel if not picked up correctly. It is a peanut butter cookie with white chocolate melted as the sauce and candy topped.

6. We promised Sheila a cake if she became potty trained and we delivered this Saturday. She picked out a little pony cake. She kept calling it her Birthday cake. We decided to have a party for each of them when they make that transition to big girl or boy. Hopefully, we will be having one at the end of the summer for Timmy although I haven't tried yet with him since my hips have been killing me.

7. After around 2 months of not hearing anything Ray finally has a phone interview Wednesday morning for the two positions in Jacksonville. If we are meant to go there we know things will work out and that we will be able to sell our house here. I just hope we will break even since houses in our neighbor have dropped significantly in the last two months. However, houses are a steal in Jacksonville right now and so it will be worth it if it comes to that.

8. I have some serious sciatic nerve issues and acid reflux. I am now on a stronger acid reflux medicine and that has seemed to help with the burning although I am still trying to stay away from trigger foods. Not much I can do about the hips but try not to sit in the same position for long time and rest it when I can. I have been taking warm baths almost nightly to help it too since that is what my OB suggested.

Four Grandchildren in 13 Months

My parents will welcome 4 grandchildren into their lives within a 13 (or maybe 14) month period. The first was born December of 2008. My second youngest brother and his wife had their third child, first son. Then in April of this year my oldest brother and wife had their first child, a son, together. (She has two older children from her first marriage.) I will be next having my third in October. My youngest brother called me a few days ago and they will be having their second child in either January or February 2010. When we make it home for a family reunion it will be fun for our kids. Sheila and Timmy both have cousins of the same gender close to their age on my side of the family too.
