Birdhouses

I  am going to try to update my blog this next week.  At the end of April the kids painted some birdhouses I had picked up at the craft store for a dollar each.  I already had oodles of paint and paint brushes in my craft supplies so it made for a cheap and fun craft for the kids.
Afterwards we hung them on our lone tree out front.  The kids wanted the birds to come right away but I have yet to get the bird seed for them.

Maybe We're Crazies

I was so not looking forward to driving across country in a packed SUV, putting up a tent and blowing up an air mattress every few days, staying in hotels, eating out.  We were thinking of getting a trailer last year and then found out that we couldn't tow one like we wanted with the minivan so we stopped looking.  Than in January we replaced the van with an SUV that tows a big load but we still weren't even thinking of the trailer by then.  Well, we decided to go look at them last weekend and found two we love.  I wanted it.  It was the answer.  Instead of endless lists of what to take, what we will take if we have room, food to buy now, food to buy on the road, etc. we could just load the trailer and not worry.  Today we went and looked again and they gave us a price we didn't want to pass up on the bigger trailer.  Now hopefully we will be able to tow it.  (The vehicle should but are the drivers capable?)  We pick it up next week when we finalize everything.  I am excited.  It will be like being thrown into a fire pit to figure out the backing and everything.  We planned on getting one in 1-2 years anyway.  I know we are crazy.  We made three big purchases this year but the vehicles we plan on having for ten years and the trailer for at least 20.  Pictures will be posted next week after we get it.

May Day Flowers and Potty Training

My five year old is so sweet.  On May Day we took Grandma and Papa to Wal-Mart since their car broke down and they needed groceries.  Sheila saw the flower display near the produce section and insisted she needed to get some flowers for momma.  So Ray finally let her pick out some to get me. She picked out some yellow tulips, which are blooming nicely on my table now.

I have dreaded potty training ever since it was a disaster with Sheila.  I have tried every few weeks with Timmy and he has cried and cried.  Today I prepared myself for the drama.  I told him he couldn't watch Clifford until he went to the potty.  I was shocked as he followed me to the bathroom and then sat on the potty with no tears.  He was so proud when he started to pee and sat there for several minutes getting everything out that he could.  He was so proud to pee on the potty.  Then he told me two more times he needed to go.  Only one accident so far today and that was right after his nap.  Here's to hoping that maybe I finally will have some success and soon I will only have one in diapers again.
