Our Independence Day celebration

Our Independence Day celebration was low key like most years. We missed the parade again. It was just too hot for me to go out so we didn't go. Next year we will try again. We just stayed home. That evening Ray's parents came over and we had hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, corn on the cob, and watermelon. The kids really enjoyed the watermelon, especially Timmy who ate three slices.

Afterwards we went outside to light off the few fireworks we had gotten. Sheila is still very afraid of them so we don't go to the big shows in town. Our one neighbor always has some big ones that light up the sky anyway. Sheila ended up in the house for most of the display.

We got a few sparklers for the kids. Sheila, who loved them last year, was so afraid of it that she almost burned me with it trying to give it back to me. After that she ran in the house. Timmy liked holding his but Grandma had to make sure he didn't burn himself or her.

After our fireworks were all done, Grandma and Grandpa left and the kids watched the rest of the Macy Fireworks on television. Since people were lighting off fireworks all night it took us awhile to get the kids to bed and Sheila refused to sleep in her room so she slept in the hall. Ray got called in to work (he was oncall and they had a problem) so our night ended quietly.

Cute pics from the 4th! Sorry Sheila is so scared! Katie was scared of the sparklers too, but somehow Brilee and Tuck eased her into it. :)

Sometimes a low-key 4th of July is best. Especially if the little ones don't like fireworks so well. It sounds like you had a nice time though.
