Dinosaur National Monument, July 10, 2013

Vacation2013 321

Our drive on July 10 was monstrous.  We drove from Colorado Springs, CO to West Jordan, UT.  The drive through I-70 was gorgeous and definitely worth it.  Once we got into Utah we stopped at Dinosaur National Monument for a short break.  We got in free since Ray got his military pass.  Timmy and Joshua both love dinosaurs.  We only stopped at the quarry since it was late afternoon and we still had a three hour drive.

It was worth the stop and the two hour break.  Although it was 102 out we didn’t sweat, unlike Florida, and the quarry is in an air conditioned room.

The kids loved seeing the dinosaur bones and being able to touch a few.  They also loved riding the trolley from the visitor center to the quarry. We hope to go again in a few years and do some more exploring in the park.

Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, CO, July 9, 2013

Vacation2013 177
We spent the whole day of July 9 in Colorado Springs.  In the morning we went for the drive up Pikes Peak.  We had to turn off the AC in the car for the drive up.  It wasn’t too bad though because the temperature was only 54 degrees up top.
The kids got tired of the ride and there was so many little bugs up top that we didn’t stay long.  Sheila totally freaked out about the little gnat like bugs.  They were everywhere, coating our clothes and hair.
On the way up we stopped at the reservoir and then at a snow drift that hadn’t melted.  The only times my kids have really played in the snow have been the summer time when we have gone up to mountains with snow still on them. We did see some mountain goats on our way down the mountain.
